On what the attitude sports was like on campus
“For the most part pretty good. I think, I think people were proud of
their teams. I think the university certainly placed, put up its athletic traditions as
one of the reasons to attend Western. Not only for athletes, but you know, who wants to
be identified with a school that’s sort of mamby-pamby? It has some cache in the
alumni and with the student body, has some cache. If you’re always getting beaten up by
the other teams in sport, it may not have any indelible effect on you but
psychologically, you go to a party and ‘you’re from Western? oh woah woah, whatever’
you know. So from that point of view, I can make that statement.”
